In the Garage…

For machines smaller than a farm tractor, they are brought into the shop for repair. Here we are outfitted with the necessary equipment and tools to take on more involved work. On occasion, I take in farm tractors at the shop that require major mechanical revamps (machines that are being resurrected from sitting), but nothing larger than a Ford 801 series due to current space restrictions.

Current shop labor rate is $70hr plus parts

Shop services include, but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance of equipment and routine service work
  • Ignition tune ups
  • Resurrecting dormant machines back to working order
  • Transmission work
  • Electrical work (we do not have computer diagnostic capabilities)
  • New wiring harnesses built from scratch
  • Mechanical restorations
  • Carburetor rebuilds of all makes and models (Zenith, Marvel-Shebler, Holley, Carter, Bendix, etc)
  • Engine rebuilds (Kohler “K” and “M” Series single cylinder only at this time)
  • Engine swaps
  • And more…

Brands such as…

  • WheelHorse
  • Panzer
  • Simplicity
  • Gravely
  • Case

Mechanical Revamps / Restorations

Many machines that have been sitting for long periods of time, whether it be in the back corner of your garage, or the back 40, can be brought back to life and used reliably. This is a common request that is seen often here at JGR.

Carburetor Rebuilds

All carburetors are fully disassembled, examined, ran through a parts washer, then the glass bead blast cabinet to remove any debris, corrosion or rust. Afterwards, they are reassembled with new gaskets and any internal parts that require replacement. 3 coats of Rustoleum Clear are applied at the end of the rebuild to preserve the exterior finish.

Rebuilding all of the common brands used on equipment- Zenith Carburetors, Marvel Schebler, Walbro, Carter, Holley, Bendix, Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, Clinton, Tillotson, etc.

Transmission Repair

Shown below is a customers WheelHorse D250 transmission where all the bolts holding the differential together broke, then sheered up against the case as they rotated. The brass worm gear was damaged as well from the broken hardware circulating in the transmission. Good used parts were sourced, NLA gaskets drawn/traced and hand-cut and the unit reassembled.

Transmission services also include the 4 and 8 speed WheelHorse Uni-Drives as well along with most other makes and models such as Simplicity, Gravely, Economy, Cub Cadet, even the cast iron Peerless transmissions found in many of the old garden tractors.

Electrical Work

Below are photos showing a built from scratch wiring harness for a customers Economy tractor. Wires are all laid out in an orderly fashion, neatly tapped together then covered with wire loom. A new wiring schematic is then hand drafted and given to the customer in case future repairs are needed.

Electrical work extends beyond just building harnesses to diagnosing charging systems, safety switch circuits, electric clutches, etc.

Engine Work

Though specializing in Kohler “K” and “M” series engines, JGR services all makes just the same. From Briggs and Stratton, Wisconsin, Tecumseh, Onan, Clinton, Toro, along with engines from larger tractors as well.
